Al. In short, the extended No4 case was the original but when stocks were exhausted, (after all, they were only ever issued for the No4T after about 1960 in any case as nothing else would fit!) a new batch were ordered that were made from dark green web material and to the correct L42 length. The same applied to the old No2 binocular straps at pretty much the same time too. Now(?) you'll still find the old kakhi/sandy colour in the system but the new stocks are dark green. Same applied to Bren holdalls.... Old original, sand/khaki. 60's replacements dark green and slightly shorter (because in this case, unlike the loonger L42 case, the 'current' Mk3Bren and 7.64mm L4 guns had shorter barrels)

    Springfield pattern

I was fortunate to buy this one on eBay about 18 months ago, for a very modest price, sold as a slip for an air rifle...

Looks to be one of the 1973 batch you are describing.

    Kind regards

    Mike

Mike, looks to be same year, same manufacturer as mine. You have a really nice example.

Here is a direct link. Looks like the buyer ended it early.

    Thanks Dan,
The two examples are really what I was trying to expose and is what I touched on in post #9. They, I would suggest are simply two US surplus rifle bags (as the third bag illustrated in the first pic of this thread) that carry no Britishicon acceptance marks what so ever. The clever chappy has cottoned on to the fact that it is this pattern that was officially adopted by the MOD and has broadened his potential market by punting it to L42 owners.

A L42 owner building his CES and associated equipment who buys such a bag will have purchased the correct style but not the correct bag!

I picked this sand coloured Springfield style case up a while back, I thought it probably Britishicon at the time as it does seem to have broad arrow mark in several places along with what appears to be D&M 42.
I don't know but could it have been originally for the No3 rifle if a 42 date.

    hope the pics come out.
