Found A K98 Code 337, Manufacture Date 1940 That's The Upside Of The Story

    Yesterday I received a Mauser K98icon code 337 manufactured in 1940.
It doesn't have Mod. 98 marked on the left side of the receiver.
Now for the down side to the story, its a full stock Israeli conversion to 7.62.
It has a mismatched bolt and lower barrel band, but has a laminate stock, milled floor plate, trigger guard, stock disk and cupped butt plate.
Middle barrel band is late war stamped and welded.
From what I have found, they used that code for a very short time, and produced less than 10,000.
The code was used briefly after Berlin-Suhler-Waffen and Gustloff Werke merged in late 1939.
The gun is in good condition but would have been a great find if it was in original condition and original unaltered caliber.
They list the Lowest Know serial number as 2562 and highest 9295. This information I found in one of my Collector Grade Publications books "Backbone of the Wehrmach" "Authors Revised Edition", page 150. The serial number is 2576 very close to the earliest known number.
How do I reduce the amount of oil soaked into the stock without ruining it?
