    320th INF,

Welcome to the Carbine forum. We consist of newer and longtime carbine members. Lots of old threads on different subjects. You can try using the search feature up in the tool bar to look for related threads. Look through the sticky section for saved threads deemed of value. We also have a classified section up under the Quartermaster Stores.

Knowledgeable and friendly group of guys that are very helpful. I hope you enjoy and participate in the forum.

Looking at the link you posted. It says auction ended, reserve not met. Are you the seller, or work a deal of line?

Looks like it has some fake parts. And parts not consistent with the serial number. The rear sight shows more wear then the receiver. Looks like a later slide then the serial number. I would say it has been put together. You can tell more with it in hand. If you make a bid, ask about an inspection period and return policy.

    Jim

Doug is correct. When I went back and clicked on Click here to view the new listing: Item # 392716861 it shows sold. I feel it went for a bit more then it might be worth.

Actually Jim, you were correct as well. The first link showed it as having not sold, but there's a second link that a reader can click through to, which indicates it was re-listed. That's the one I showed...

    Regards,
    Doug

"Vet bring back from South Florida"? I never knew our military fought there. Oh, maybe it was used against the Seminoles.

It appears to me that all the wood has been "lovingly refinished".

I looked at it yesterday evening and didn't notice the "relisted" link being there. I did notice the impression of a later barrel band and maybe a rebuild mark on the left side of the buttstock. I can't make out the marking in the sling well. The later hammer spring and operating slide don't quite seem right either. Maybe a few rusty parts here and there, but interesting. I agree with Jim that it might have sold a bit high, but I've got a couple like that. - Bob

There is evidence of a type 2, 3 barrel band on the stock. But it all comes down to are you happy with it ? It may have been high but ten years from now it won't be considered high

The typical marks in the sling well are simply not there - not even 'IO'. I think, IIRC, that the early ones should have the small Ordnance 'bomb' and other marks on the ramp. Also the Type II or III signature on the nose as already mentioned. Too questionable.

  12. Thank You to INLAND44 For This Useful Post:

    Guys,

Sorry about the confusion concerning the auction site. I am the "buy it now" owner and should have stated that in my original post. Did I pay too much? yes, I sure it's several hundred dollars more than what you guys would have paid because you know what "looks fake or put together". Sometimes experience can be expensive. When I have it in hand I will take a close look at your concerns and compare all to my JC Harrison book.

Jim, could you elaborate on your statement, I'm just trying to learn; "Looks like it has some fake parts. And parts not consistent with the serial number. The rear sight shows more wear then the receiver. Looks like a later slide then the serial number". Fake parts gives me stomach knots.

USGI, could you do the same as above for me on your statement? "The later hammer spring and operating slide don't quite seem right" I also could not see any makings on the sling well which concerns me as well.

None the less, I really do appreciate everyone's thoughts on what I've got. If it wasn't for people like yourselves all us new guys would just go broke. I also do have a three day inspection period and can return if it looks to "put together". It now looks like I may exercise this option.

    Thanks for everyone's help,

    Tom
