She's finally in her forever home, with first range report.

The weather was beautiful, so I went to the range.

    Ok... before you crucify me.

... I have not been on the trigger of ANY rifle in more than 10 years. Even longer than that with irons. I have never shot an M1903.

    12" target at 100 yards.

Seated at a bench, sandbags under forend of stock.

I see this getting expensive fast.

I'll haunt any offspring I may have that even thinks about selling it when I'm dead and gone.

Very nice rifle. No explination required on the pattern. Well done. Ditto on the "stewardship" as unfortunately we are but stewards. All we can do is pass the passion and arms to the next generation in the hope they will excersize stewardship faithfully as well cherishing the history these arms represent.

    Thanks folks!

To be honest, I was amazed I got anything on the paper after such a long hiatus, but it really is a lot like riding a bike.

Also, the accuracy of the elevation on that ladder sight is scary good. The notch sight at 100 yards is zeroed perfectly (the two groups that split the center vertically). Had I not switched to the peep after going -2 on the windage, I believe I would have held center target. The high walking is me trying to relearn a peep sight. I had the blade too high instead of centered in the peep.

Nothing sweeter than the first range trip with a new/new-to-you gun.
Save that sheet as a baseline...
