    New M1 Garand Owner

Hi folks. I recently bought my first M1icon Garand through the CMPicon. It's a SSA Special Grade (new barrel, new stock, re-parkerized - basically a brand new rifle) with a WWII serial number. I love it and can't wait to get out and shoot it but the weather has been sub-zero much of the time here lately in the People's Socialist Republic of Illinois. I'll get out soon, though.

I'm 64, a retired engineer, and a large format photographer. I'm getting back into shooting after some years. I also just purchased my first AR-15 (Colt LE6940).

I'm a NRA Life Member, and also a member of the Illinois State Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, The Second Amendment Foundation and The Heritage Foundation. I'm very active in doing whatever I can to protect the Second Amendment. In fact, I was doing that long before I even got back into shooting and I would do it even if I didn't own a firearm or shoot at all.

I'm sure I'll have some questions for the experts here.

At this point, I'm not a collector so, for my first M1, I wanted a nice shooter:

    Here's my new prize.

It does look like better than military wood. Lighter finish or something...
