    Peter.
Some of the numbers you listed have shown up with others. Were these numbers you observed while in Service, or were they numbers culled from scope repairs? Or a mixture of both?

Are you aware why these later rifles were all given a 'seperate' serial number batch? I think I relate the H&H input at LB where they got them to 'production line' the No4T production using ONE single batch of barrelled actions from ONE source. Just as they did from BSA production

It would certainly make a lot more sense to do the machining, drilling and tapping of the receiver before it was hardened and finished. A normal LB receiver is very hard towards the back. It must have been murder trying to do the modifications on already produced rifles. It also makes sense to do it right the first time rather than selecting rifles that for some magical reason almost got it right on the regular production line, then modifying them.

In the case of the sporterised 90L T rifle I am currently restoring, the junior gunsmith who took the hacksaw to the rifle also replaced two BSF screws with UNF bolts. These were the rear thumbscrew for the scope, and the target swivel/kingscrew just forward of the magazine. In both cases the threads changed on the grade 5 bolts rather than on the rifle's receiver. Believe me, that was a relief to find as neither repair would have been easy. I am not even sure if BSF helicoils even exist.

Edited to add: I guess one should look before one makes a statement: 1 4 BSF Helicoil V Coil Thread Repair Insert Kit | eBay
