A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Well said Jeff.

I first started hanging out on Joustericon back in 1999. Lots of good posts over the years. Thanks again and looking forward to a "new" beginning.

So your thoughtful words won't be lost when CSPicon fades away.....I hope you don't mind.

    "Rest in peace CSP.

I cannot help but feel that this is the passing of an era. In my experience in this world, I think CSP was unique. Even at its most turbulent, or perhaps because of, it gathered the finest to it and then fostered all to become the very same - it dared each of us to step onto that stage and then brought out the very best. Even when only lurking I have no doubt that I have been bettered for being here amongst you all.

Some things end with a boom and some pass some with little more than a whimper. The old stringed format forums like this are management intensive and have failed to keep up with advancing technical assaults - CSP may be the last of them and it was only a matter of time before things changed or imploded. But for regular readers they become more than a message board - the stringed format allowed you to get a handle on the mood of things where UBB format forums, in all their technical superiority, are not transparent at all. Perhaps I will learn the new format and acquire a taste for it, but only time will tell.

But because of this and other things, for quite some time CSP has been less encouraging and slowly fading to a shadow of its former self. Many have posted over the past few years with fond remembrances of former days on CSP; days when it seemed our biggest worry was how long until the big white truck brought us our next Garandicon fix, days when we turned up our noses at those crummy Danishicon returns with VAR barrels, days when nuggets of wisdom flowed so freely that we checked CSP every 30 minutes or less (if we left at all), days when any post could anger, delight, infuriate, inspire, or all of the above all at the same time, when any post could contain a gem and we turned them ALL blue without fail so we knew when there was a new one, days when forum members took it upon themselves to collect the best posts and save them in one place (thanks Lane) so newer guys could go thru and catch up or so that everyone could debate the latest of ideas, days when information and thoughts were free and traded back and forth without egos or worrying who thought of what, days when friendships were forged trying to help the newest of collectors get to their feet instead of watching them be the next meal for the fakers, days when technical info was relayed and shooting tips were honed so that all could learn and improve or just help the newest guy start, days where you could argue with a PhD, a gazillionaire, a machinist, a used car salesman, and a Gunny Sgt. all in the same conversation, days when you could converse easily with the most renowned of authors on these subjects and they would answer, days when like minds spurred each other to action to the point where everyone in Congress got more communications than all other pending legislation combined so that ALL of them knew section 1062 was not to our liking and that we were here and we cared, days when we saw that even massive disagreement done respectfully instead of just for the sake of being contrary could be positive, days when contrary opinions could be discussed in spite of disagreement, days when even the occasional brawl was a good time for all, when camaraderie and fellowship were what we enjoyed and at the end of the day we were all still just having a great time with people we truly enjoyed. It was in my mind, the finest and most American of places and times.

It goes without saying that I thank the Culvers for their endless indulgence, but also I thank all of you for making this place what it was. Hopefully the new forum can become worthy of its name and everyone will enjoy it as we have enjoyed here, be as inspired as we have been inspired here. Hopefully the new forum will last as long or longer than has our surrogate home here these many years. Hopefully the new forum can evolve into the same kind of place and foster that same Greatness in those it touches, ...

but it has some mighty big shoes to fill.

All my most humble of opinions. My very best and highest regards to each and every one of you.

Don't blame me - I voted for Palin.

Glad to see that a lot of those claiming they weren't 'puter literate' were able to safely make the jump.

I made the jump but I'm desperately treading water! Relearning how to swim.
