    dou 43

I recently aquired a Mod 98 dou 43. It has serial numbers in 15 different locations on the rifle. All seem to be original, as some are more worn than others depending on location. Is it unusual for a Mod 98 to have that many serial numbers on a rifle. They all match, and I fully believe the gun is an original Mod 98, based on metal/wood condition. It is definitely not a MM. Thanks for any info anyone might have.

All matching is a very good thing, and yes they numbered the rifles in many locations. I would like to see pictures if possible. I always have time for k98 porn.

Yes, the Germans serialled almost every component of K98kicon's though this became less prevalent into 1944 and 1945 as production requirements became more urgent. Your mauser was manufactured in German occupied Czechoslovakiaicon at Waffenwerke Bysterika, a satellite facility of Waffenwerke Bruenn(sp?). The main facility (Bruenn) is the city of Brno still famous for Mausers today. German production code for Brno was DOT then SWP in early 1945. Bysterika remained DOU code until wars end. The Czechs acquired mauser making machinery in the beginning after WW1 as war reparations as did Poland from Germany. The Czechs began to produce their own mauser for military and export sales to other countries. The VZ23(rare), VZ24 and VZ33 were all very well made rifles and when the Germans occupied Czechslovakia they simply introduced a few German features, inspections and markings and the factories continues to roll out rifles for German use. Oddly after WW2 ended the Czechs continued to make K98k's for export and you see many Israeli used Czech built rifles with Nazi proofs on them. The Czechs just kept production going using parts originally made for the Germans. You have a nice rifle. There is a high demand for WW2 K98k's that are in matching trim and undicked with.
