    M1 Garand ejecting clip early

Hello everyone. I have a recently purchased Garandicon I am having some trouble with.

I have had a smith look at it and he said it looked good to go. The op rod spring wasn't in great condition but he said give it a try and see if I needed a new one. I took it out last weekend and it had the same problem it does now. In the interim I replaced the spring with a brand new one. I can feel the increased tension on the slide so I'm pretty sure it did need one, but it has not solved the problem. The rifle attempts to eject the clip as if it were empty. It does not do this on any particular round but it seems to vary between the 2nd, 3rd and 4th with no discernible reason. I do not think it is the gas cylinder because the smith has taken a look at it, but I guess it is possible it needs more adjusting.

I took some video of the exact malfunction.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Try a new clip latch spring. Otherwise, could it be the clip it's self? Have you tried multiple clips? I'd say the clip latch and or spring...

I have 40-50 clips and didn't pick them intentionally so I'm pretty sure they have been different ones. I guess clip latch spring might be it.

Clip latch or clip latch spring. Maybe both.

Great video, dramatizes the issue perfectly -- and fun to watch Good luck solving it, guys on this board will certainly help. Whatever it turns out to be, it's minor.

Most likely the clip latch spring. I always have a full set of spare springs for my Garands and M1icon Carbines around, just in case.

This is a common problem and rarely is it a worn clip latch
#1 make sure you are using good condition USGI Enblocs
#2 replace clip latch spring (you can stretch spring, reinstall and if problem goes away replace it) If problem still exists go to #3
#3 lobe on bullet guide may be worn out of spec

Well, I tried replacing the clip latch spring and the rifle seemed to work much better, but the malfunction still occurred. I did use USGI clips and they did work, but then they would not. I am going to try replacing the bullet guide and the clip latch itself since I have the parts. I used several types of ammo as well as clips but I still experienced the malfunction.
