Chamber Insert?

Thanks DD and Pete. I saw that video on this website this weekend when I came over from CSP. It looked like a good idea. However, due to your input, I'll forget about it. Someday, when I get caught up with everything else I'm supposed to accomplish in my "idle retirement time", I might invest in a larger press and a MH die set. In the meantime, I still like the rifle with bayonet I got from IMA. It was fun taking it apart, cleaning everything and putting it back together. And thanks to the info and diagrams I found on the web, I was able to do it.

Back in the olden days when I hung out at Camp Pendleton, there use to be almost as many pawn shops as bars in Oceanside and they had a full supply of reloading presses. Have you stopped and looked around. They also had a penny shopper that always had a couple of presses for sale. Don't forget yard sales. The young GI's who didn't get governement paid moves always were selling heavy stuff like this when they moved. I bought a lot stuff from those sources near real cheap.

I just wish they had simply shortened the original straight tapered round for the Martini instead of making it a bottleneck case to get those extra grains of powder in it. We would then have had a round like the one used in the Swedish rolling block. and could have used reformed .348 Winchester brass which is a LOT cheaper.

I just saw a short video using a chamber insert, with a 45 long colt cartridge, for a Martini-Henry. Does anyone know if these are available, and where to buy one?

Yes, you can fire the regular Colt cartridge in the adapter. Accuracy is poor because of the difference between bullet and bore diameter. If a shooter does not reload, then factory 45s are the only game in town. The .45 cal Lee REAL slug has oversized driving bands that will engage the Martini rifling and provide reasonable accuracy. I have not shot them beyond 50 yards as shown in th earlier picture.
