    Sterling smg manufacture 1955 footage

Some interesting footage here of women assembling and testing the SMG in 1955 without ear defenders, or range etiquette

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. That is Robert Turp, ex Major in the KSLI doing the test firing. The two ladies were from the production line. They all used to come through to test fire what they'd made. They were L2A2/Mk3 guns. I couldn't get any sound or commentary. Should there be some? Mind you, I know what the sound of s Sterling at full tilt is!

    Peter,
No there was no commentary, otherwise I am sure it would have been down the lines of "You are never going to fire that with lipstick on are you"?? OR "see you behind the cycle sheds later Mertyl"

    Major Robert Turrp

    Attachment 52300

Major Turrp wrote a book about his life in the army , working as a salesman for Sterling after he left the army and opening his own operation complete with a reconditioning work shop in Belgiumicon.

One one occasion while working for Sterling he took a client to lunch at a boutique hotel in London and subnitted his expenses claim form. Later he was asked to see the MD who told him that the Sterling was the Rolls Royce of SMG's and in future he would entertain only at the Savoy!

There are some copies for sale on AbeBooks.

In the 1980's I imported two silenced MK5's from Sterling when I was based in NZicon. I found it to be quite accurate with its long sight radius .

Neat thing is, Peter probably had his hands on some of the guns you first saw lying on the production or inspection line. Probably condemned a few of them for old age later too...time paradox...

Shame this damsel is not in the film.

    Attachment 52606

You know there's going to be a whole lot of shaking going on when she squeezes the trigger.... Major Turrp knows.
