    Lithgow L1A1 contract question

    Dear all,

There is already a thread about contract identification of "AD" numbered L1A1s, but as it's an old thread, I'm recommended to open a new one. Pardon me if I'm wrong doing.

Since today, I'm the proud owner of an L1A1 numbered AD 6804400

From the posts I've read, it's most likely a New Zealandicon contract. May someone with access to the right files may let me know if "my" L1A1 went to New Zealand ?

    It's in Southern Franceicon now

    Thanks

The way I understand it, the first two numbers are the production date...is that right?

Yep. First two numbers are year of manufacture. Mine was AD 61-04714. Number imprinted in my brain together with several other important numbers.

Off at a tangent a bit but Australianicon L1A1's were far cheaper to produce and therefore retail than the UKicon versions and Canadaicon had some tight conditions that stifled export sales - apparently. Australia also offered most generous terms to Commonwealth nations including the fact that (so it was said by our Fijian Armourers in the tropics) Lithgow/Australia didn't bump up/inflate the prices of their spare parts sales and this is reflected in their high export sales of L1A1's and spares.

    You're welcome. You should pick up a copy of "S.L.R. Australiaicon's F.N. F.A.L." by Skennertonicon/Balmer from http://www.skennerton.com. It's all there.

Live or demilitarized? When I was in France 24 years ago (God, how time flies!!), I remember that deactivated arms were available--and what glorious toys were available for the taking!!--but I never got a clear picture on Frenchicon laws regarding "live" firearms. What is allowed and disallowed, en France?
