Trying to get a better ID and approximate value on my 1908 Krag carbine.

I have a Norwegian Krag from 1908. It's current configuration has left me perplexed as to the guns origin.







I'm a little bite confused on the actual make. The serial number suggests it's a 1908 Norwegian M/1907 Artillery Carbine based on the SN 11702 but those were full stock carbines.



I thought it might have been sporterized but then I found a picture which leads me to believe that due to the gun being made at the end of the 1908 production run the wood on my Norwegian Krag appears to be the stock for a Model 1897 Carbine for Norwegian Mountain Artillery and Royal Engineers.



It does not appear to be cut down or shortened. Although, my rifle's serial number indicates it should be a full length stock M-1907 Carbine (of 1908 manufacture), both 1897 & 1907 carbine models have the same length barrel. Maybe references are incorrect and it was issued with the M-1897 carbine stock. At this point in time I'm just happy to own it. It kicks like a mule and the bolt is one of the smoothest ones I've ever had the pleasure to use, it glides when your working it.

Any Krag experts in the house that could offer an opinion. Also interested in getting an approximate value?

Here in Canada, it's relative. It's all about what the buyer wants to pay. You'd have to find the right guy if you WERE to sell. I'm guessing it's in 6.5x55, which makes it a better gun for Canada then the 30-40 because of ammo availability. I prefer 30-40, but new ammo is $42 per 20 rds. Brass is REALLY hard to find. 6.5 not so hard. It would still only probably want a price tag of $500 or thereabouts. If it were in the US perhaps it could be more. There's a couple of members here that know these like their hands, Jon Norstog could be PM'd and he will shed light for you...

that looks like a pretty decent "sporterized" Norwegian Krag. I've heard a ton of those were sold in Canada, years past. They have a reputation for being stronger than the US Krag, but I would like to verify that with a controlled experiment before I accepted it as fact. Such an experiment would involve blowing up dozens of fine old rifles.

Oh well! I would probably pay $300 for that rifle if I saw it at a gun shop and was having a good day. Others might pay more. I would say, let the market speak!
