I read somewhere during the early days of the British army in Africa the had a 5 shot pistol with an enormous bore think they called it a man stopper but I seem to recall it was massive any clues guys

I also have a S&W from WW1 that was chambered for 455 but some years back, rechambered to 45 Colt. Since being rechambered, accuracy has always been rather poor with factory, reloads, blackpowder and reduced (cowboy) loads. Beside I was not comfortable using 8 grs of Unique and a 255 gr lead bullet in a used 99 year old revolver.
Even with the simple FDL adjustable rear sight accuracy was still bad yet the bore was not bad.
While checking the chambers, I notice that there was slight pitting in the throat area of each cylinder from the original 455 chambering, it would appear that the conversion to 45 Colt only provide relief to the rear of each chamber and not the throat.
I decided to shorten about two dozen 45 Colt cartridge cases to the same length as the 45 ACP (0.89 inch) and used 5.5 grs of Unique with a soft lead bullet with a slight hollow base.
First the case is sized in the 45 Colt die than the bullet is loaded in the 45 ACP die. At 20 to
25 feet, this loading produces cloverleaf groups from a sandbag rest - it workedAttachment 52441Attachment 52442
