Swiss (or Belgium) Model 1842 Percussion Infantry Musket?

Well, just picked up a neat musket (always wanted one). I was told it was used by a Minnesota soldier in the Civil War. I was also told it bounced between Belgiumicon and Switzerland and ended up used during the Civil War...anyway - just going through the first phase of ID'ng the markings and need a little help.

Now, I did find a "A Swissicon Model 1842 Percussion Infantry Musket" that had the "Crown over BF" and "V inside of a Circle" markings AND M6328M on its butt while my new puppy has M5xxxM on the butt. That rifle was sold at auction in 2006.

    I THINK...

    1. Their are Belgian Gun Maker markings (Crown over BF) all over the rifle...
    2. Their are the standard Belgian (E over LG star) Proof House Markings...
    3. "Shield" looks like emblem of Canton Neuchâtel (Western Switzerland)...
    4. Haven't a clue what the "1091" might be is the Beuret Frères assembly number...
    5. The "L" mark might be Swiss Inspector Ledermann...
    6. The "N" mark might be the Swiss Manufacture Mark (sometimes represented by just a N)...

    NO CLUE...

    6. Their are a few "V inside of a Circle" - no clue...
    7. Haven't a clue what the "CGP" - no clue...
    8. Haven't a clue on the "895" stamped on both the metal and wood...
    9. Upside down "shield" - no clue...

I have included pictures to help with the ID process.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Very nice musket and photos. Have never seen one before, so not much help, sorry. The ELG indicates a Belgian proof, though.

    Re. your tentative findings:
1 to 4 - I agree with these - Liege-proofed commercial percussion rifle (?) musket, probably made by Beuret Fréres, bought by Canton Neuchatel and (re)numbered 895*** by them. Is it rifled?

5 - The known inspectors' marks are surely of a later, post-1860s generation of Swissicon Confederation inspectors, i.e. national not cantonal inspectors? I therefore doubt that the L on a cantonal musket stands for the recorded Inspector Ledermann. Maybe a cantonal inspector whose name also began with L? 4
6 - The same consideration rules out the N as a Swiss manufacture mark, as the musket is clearly of non-Swiss manufacture, and from an era when rifle manufacture had not yet been established on a national basis.

***An example of renumbering. My Swiss Peabody ( a generation later than this musket) also bears the original maker's number, but major parts have been stamped with the Swiss service number.

Thanks Patrick Chadwick for your comments. Wouldn't it have been wonderful if everyone had to use specific serial numbers so a 150 years later we could just pulled up file and get the history of these puppies! That is what I love about my S&W collection - S&W kept a record of every firearm manufactured with the date of shipment and to who it was shipped to...ah, if life could be that easy.

Again - thanks for your comments.
