WTK: Value of Modified 1894 Krag Rifle

I have a 1894 Krag Rifle, S/N 9957, that was modified by a Spanish American War Vet after he brought this home from the Army. He also served in WWI. He used it for Hunting Deer in PA. His son and grandson never used this rifle. It has a front site installed that is not military and the rear site seems to be commercial also.

I bought this when I was 16 years old back in mid 1960s and never fired it. I want to find out it's real value.

I have similar rifles, never paid more than $400 for them. Take a close look behind the locking lug recess, make sure that there isn't a crack there. I see something in one of your pics that could be one, but maybe just an optical illusion.

It's not worth any collector dollars, just a shooter. It has no originality at all. It will serve well as a hunting rifle if the crack Andi speaks of isn't there...

Your rifle was originally a Model 1892 built in 1894. Model 1892 rifles are dated 1894 or 1895, and do not show the model. It was updated to Model 1896 prior to being 'sporterized'.
