    Greek 1903/14 Mannlicher Schonnauer

I was not sure where to post this but I figured the Mauser section would be close to appropriate. If not, feel free to move it.
My father received this in the 1950's or 60's. The numbers do not match and stock was sanded at one time (maybe during a rebuild)? The only remaining mark on the stock that I can see is a small 1 behind the triggerguard.
Since this is a model of 14 would it have been made in 1914 or did production continue for several years after? I read somewhere that it stopped during WWI.
Any idea when this would have made it's way to the US? There are no import marks.
    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Jarrod

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Scarce rifle in the US. Mfg. date is 1914. Likely imported about the time your father purchased it (within a year or three.)

In nice condition quite uncommon. The Greeks dumped them off in the late '50's and most were poor/worse condition. Piles of actions for sale for cheap money. Very difficult to re-barrel in anything other then original caliber. You have a nice keeper there. Yours is original 1914 Steyr make. The Greeks had Breda make another run after WWI, but rumor says Steyr made those as well. All are nice keepers these days.

I am restoring an 1903. I bought a stock on fleabay. Seller neglected to mention had been broken through the small and glued back together. Sold the sporterized version to recoup somewhat. The front band I have is the same as the one shown here for the 03/14. I am thinking that the 1903 may not have had the front handguard and used a different front band. Any help much appreciated.
