    My son's AKM build FINISHED

Hey all, I've been working getting this Polish AKM prepped for my son Jeff's first build. He's coming out to stay with me for a week while on leave from the Corps. I wanted to optimize every moment with him while he's here so I've been chipping away at the prep for a while now. I'm using a Childers receiver and an AKBuilder matching kit I've had for some time. The barrel is populated, head spaced and all the holes are drilled in the receiver for front and rear trunnions. I've already done a mock up with the FCG installed and everything aligns perfect. I did rivet the trigger guard on.

Jeff requested I do the wood dark red like some Russianicon AKs have and he wanted an extra twist and wanted the finish a high gloss. He explained he would always cherish this as his first father son build so I agreed. I hate working with wood but I'm very impressed with how this turned out.

We'll be putting it all together in a few weeks I welcome your comments.

I love the barrel/bolt carrier in the white look. One suggestion if I may, a black grip would tie the whole thing together now that the furniture is red.

I had a black grip and Jeff said he didn't want black. I'll look for a true red grip and stash this brown/burgundy one for another build.

Yeah Aussie, he'll install and rivet the front and rear trunnions, press the barrel and pin it, install the FCG, media blast it, Parkerize it, Moly coat it and install the stock set. As I said, our time will be short for all we plan on doing, We have an AR to put together also.

Well it looks as though Jeff will not make it here to visit me. This is very sad but I plan on flying back there in September to visit him so I've built this AKM at Jeff's request to bring back to him.

I got up early this morning and build Jeff's AKM. It's all together, head space checked and I just need to test drive it. After I've made sure it functions properly I'll be media blasting, Parkerizing and then moly resin coating for a really nice and durable finish.

I'll hold my last kit back so Jeff and I can someday hook up and get 'er done. If by chance Jeff can make it up here to visit it will only be for the day but I really don't think he should try to kill himself to come up for just a day. I'm really bummed about this!

Oh well, he's a Marine and this is just part of what little inconveniences that can arise.

Anyway, I hope you guys like it so far.

Nice build, Bill. Nice to be in Free America. I had to satisfy myself with a Saiga Kalifornistan compliant. BTW, AmmunitionDepot.com still had 124 JHP Tulammo (8M3 Sapsan bullet) made by Ulyanovsk for $4.67 a box. I paid $4.47, and got almost 2,000 rounds. Most other places dried up on Russianicon/Ukrainian ammo.
