Rumanian PSL 54

Anybody familiar with the weapon? I was looking at one with a battery operated scope with a lighted reticle. 7.62x54.

Never fired. Heavy as hell! Wanted $999.99 for it .Looks like a Dragkanov (SP) Not interchangeable parts.

I have one with an over the bore mount.

I could not get it on paper and next week I should have it back. I have a master gunsmith making corrections. I hope.

Thank you. I have never seen so many Russian scopes, accessories, etc. Even original WWll scopes. If I was confused before, I am now!

I assume your rifle did not come with a scope. From all I have read, is that this rifle was not designed as a Sniper rifle. It was meant to be used by a designated soldier to reach out while the rest of the soldiers were taking care of business.

Let me know how your situation turns out! Are you in a European country? I like the rifle. Have to sell something to buy it though. Thanks again. I really like the web sites you sent!

I did not like the off set scope and I felt I would get better accuracy with an center mount and increased scope power. So far it has been a money pit. I am a Maryland resident and I purchased the PSL as a last act of defiance to the October assault ban. Berretta firearms is leaving Maryland and when the governor was asked about it his reply was "It's a free country". If I was the reporter I would have replied "But not a free state".

I bought my PSL about 2 weeks after Skip did --- as I also live in Maryland --- and go to the same range as Skip does. It came with a 4x Russian rangefinder scope. It gets about 2 1/2 --- 3 m.o.a. at 100 yards, with an occasional flyer or two with Russian corrosive ammo. Use only 147 grain bullets, not the 174's or you'll have the potential to wreck the receiver. The rubber eyepiece on the scope is a good idea and has an excellent rangefinder reticle. Make sure the turret screws are keep tight or the zero will wander. Do not Loctite the turret screws.

Make sure the stock screws are tight. The PSL has a long piston, compared to a Dragunov, which has a short piston; which tends to make the rifle more accurate than the PSL. The supplied scope is not focus adjustable. My right eye {dominant eye} is far sighted ---- so shooting right handed with my right eye --- does not give me a proper cheek weld, plus, the reticle is out of focus. So I use my nearsighted left eye --- while shooting right handed --- for a perfect reticle/target focus and a proper cheek weld; for the offset scope mount.

The PSL does not seem to be conducive too rapid fire....due to the recoil impulse of the 7.62x54R round. Try to keep the barrel from getting to hot, or your groups will spread.

My PSL tends to have a violent {approx. 30 feet distance} right hand ejection of the spent shell casing --- which could put someone's eye out --- so a spent shell case net is preferred on populated ranges.

As said above use only 7.62X54R light ball (147 grain) or you will damage the receiver. Also the caution to keep the barrel from heating up is a good idea otherwise your groups will open up. I have found Czech Silvertip to be the most accurate 7.62X54R in my PSL. Additionally try to but only ones marked Cugir PSL 54C. The ones put together by the outfit in Tennessee, usually marked FPK, can be problematic.
