Probably still some discussion to have on this one overlander as to where your rifle was assembled.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... From Ian Skennertons TLE
"Orange commenced manufacture on 15th March 1942 along with No1 bayonet production from July 1942. After this, rifle assembly was transferred from Lithgowicon"

From this, i would say both our rifles were assembled at Lithgow & not Orange even though both our rifles do have OA marked parts.

My Mk III* has the F 372** serial on the reinforce on the left has OA VII, also present L small arrow 24 large arrow all in a line arrows above and below the 24, a H barrel with 6 '59 the barrel has J A and two Lithgowicon stars just under the small top wood, the Butt is MOA SMLE III* HV 1945 Butt plate OA I use this sometimes if I feel like a change from my No. 4's

The nose cap is not serial No. to the rifle but is BA and an E prefix though the action and the cap etc have this green tinged appearance the only reason I have not pictured it is I have before and it has a teak stock at present that I had my stock maker fit up for me saving the original if I ever decide to sell it (When hell freezes maybe). Any info 5th Batt would be good TIA.
I brought this book the other day 1921 1st ed thought you would enjoy the pic.
