Wright Patterson AFB Museum AR and M16 Series on Display

    Gents,
I was given the opportunity to visit the Wright Patterson AFB museum. Of course there were a lot of planes! However, I did run across some cool displays. I will post these as time allows. First up, is an overall display case:

Since this is the M16icon forum, I am moving beyond the other rifles in the case.
Here is a Colt Model 01:

I will try and post more photos of the GAU 5 and grenade launcher attached to another AR series rifle.

Sorry for the grainy photos, but I was out of battery power, and the IPHONE didn't want to cooperate.

Very nice...nice and early. The little GAU would be neat to examine too.

The pistol grip looks different on Colt 01 AR-15, at first I thought it was from the glass case but from a closer look - it is different ? Notice the area around the top left side of the grip, the shape is different - or is it from the photo in the case ?

Is it green finish furniture? The over paint job? And yes, it appears different.

Oh, I don't know. The Blooper is pretty interesting.

    Gents,
Glad you like the 01. Here are some more shots of it (distant).

I will see if my wife has any photos of it. She mentioned that she saw a display with guns... and took some shots.

Once again, sorry for the crappy/ grainy photos... cell phones are a miracle... and aren't real digital "cameras"....

---------- Post added at 10:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:48 AM ----------

I grabbed some photos of the GAU 5P. I will check the cell phone drive and see if I have MORE or them.

Thanks for looking, and your comments!

    Wright Patterson AFB Museum

I did install early parts and green furniture on a 2K Colt SP1 some years ago because I had the early parts. I was careful to save the original Colt SP1 parts. The early bolt catch and charging handle were the most difficult to locate - and are original partsAttachment 55662
