    Wiping rod

I received a wiping rod and oiler in the mail from Gun Parts today. Marketed as repros, and warned the thread on the rod is different, how close are they? Looks wise...I could never get a real set here in Canadaicon.

    Krag cleaning rods

Here are some photos of mine showing original and reproduction rods together. Original oil bottles are not hard to find in U.S.iconA. and sell for $15.00 to $25 (USD). Rods can be obtained from DeChristopher for $30 for three rod original set. (Others post them on Ebay, all the time and more expensive). Brass muzzle cover/sight protectors routinely get priced at $65 and up. (Be cautious since these are also being reproduced). It is good practice to put a folded up cleaning patch in the butt-trap. It keeps things quiet and prevents marking and peening.

Jim, could a friend down here not ship a set to you or is it one of those items?

As we've proven, things CAN be shipped. I'm not sure it matters about it being original considering it's being used on the "School gun" I'm finishing up. It's not original, so I thought these would be fine...

I put a repro. Kragicon rod set in the butt trap of my fake NRA/DCM Krag 'carbine' for Range use. It is not intended to deceive, but, at the $17 I paid, is handy and expendable.

    Some Rod data

I took some quick measurements on a reproduction and original Kragicon 3-rod set:

Original - rod diameter .200 inches, head diameter .253 inches max., and 30 threads per inch.

Reproduction - rod diameter .195 inches, head diameters varied from .245 to .249 (slotted head) inches max., and 32tpi.
