    Nagant Sniper

Fellas, Where might one find a Moisin Nagant Sniper rifle if one was looking for one? I'ld even be interested in one that has been pieced together for the right price, but an original would be best. Any ideas what one would expect to pay for either an original or a pieced together version?

Given the large amount of repros available according to http://www.gunboards.com/forums/default.asp it makes one want to be very careful about the money, one spends.

Believe it or not, they still show up at gun shows. I picked up right off the table from a personal collector at the Ancaster Gun Show last week, a beautiful 91/30 M52 Hungarianicon sniper.

I was really surprised to see it at an excellent price and fortunately I was there very early (that's important at shows) and grabbed it quick.

It cost me about $400 to 'build' and Nagant sniper with a minty 91-30 and an original PU scope

So.....keep that in mind if paying $1000 for a known repro

Of course, if you can't fins an untouched original, you can get all original prts and restore an ex-sniper. This isn't entirely sacrilege considering the rifle is/was a real sniper, whereas drilling and tapping an undrilled infantry version IS.

Yes I saw that one at Ancaster, almost bought it myself except for the Russianicon scope on it. To bad because rifle and mount were Hungarianicon. Original Hungarian scopes are stamped 02 and numbered to the rifle.

The Ancaster Gun Show M52 is a 1953 and does have the correct Hungarian made PU scope marked with the traditional "41", found on their binoculars and other optics. I stand to be corrected, but I've never seen a Hungarian scope itself marked with anything except that, however, the scope mount is marked "02", as is all of the other correct components. The rifle serial number stamped on the Hungarian PU scope does not match the rifle serial, but once again, I've only ever seen one pic of a rifle/scope set that did match.

I'll try to take some pics today and post them in the December Purchases thread.

In the meantime, here's a 1954 example displayed in our Milsurp Knowledge Libraryicon, mounted with the Hungarian PU scope marked "41" correctly, except for the common scope/rifle miss-match. The Observations section was provided by Vic Thomas of Mosin-Nagant.com.
