Question CDN National Film Board Ross/ Hughes Film ???

An old time ( I mean really old time) Ross Rifle collector and authority keeps telling me about this National Film Board movie about Sir Charles and Sam Hughes. Gordon Pinsent plays a role. I have not been able to locate any information about this film. Anyone able to help? Thanks.

The National Film Board of Canadaicon [NFB] lists: "Far From Home: Canada and the Great War - Sam's Army: Part 3". The catalog description references Sir Sam Hughes as "...not your standard-issue military leader." - then mentions his promotion of the "...the ill-conceived Ross rifle." [NFB writer's words!] Of course we present-day Ross owners know it was NOT "ill-conceived" - only misunderstood!

This title is part of a 10 part series; some of which may be available for on-line viewing; but not, apparently, this one. You could contact the National Film Board to inquire into "Sam's Army" availability in other formats. I'll hunt-around in the archives of the Military Museums of Calgary where I volunteer and a place every MilSurp member should visit if you're ever in Calgary.

Thanks much. It would be quite a feat to obtain a copy. The old-timer tells me the film portrays Sam Hughes somewhat indecent interest in Army nurses. This is pure hearsay coming from a source not really as sharp as it once was to me ( not quite as sharp as I once was).

The name of the TV drama is "A Right and Proper Gentleman."

Do you know where I can get a good book on the history of the Pennsylvania State Police?
