Question Harrington and Richardson M1 Garand .308 ammo?

Hello everyone, I'm a new owner of a Harrington and Richardson M1icon Garand.. I've done some internet checking on it and so far I've found out the it was manufactured between 1952 to 1954. I'm really looking forward to shooting it. I've found several on-line sites on the operation of the rifle and I have to say that the ones that show old military instruction videos are very informative. I'm in the process of looking for a place where I can shoot it. I would like to know, if someone can help me, what's the best ammo to use. It's a .308 cal. but after viewing several sites I'm not quite sure which to buy. I would appreciate any help I could get since there is a gun show coming up soon and I would like to purchase some bulk ammo.

I have one and don't use anything special. I have an adjustable gas cylinder lock screw relief valve though. (gas plug)... Perhaps if you get one, you can use whatever comes to hand and not worry. Or, do like I did before I had one and shoot ball and not worry either. It just threw my brass so far and so erratic that it was a pain. I'm in Canadaicon though so I don't have the availability of strange brands you do. I used Canadian ball and some US National Match...some UMC Ball too...
    Regards, Jim

    308

It was built in 30-06, how did it get to 7.62mm? Navy conversion? Civilian rebarrel?

It is a search engine for ammo. Look for 7.62x51 not .308.
If you get the Schuster adjustable gas plug you have more choices.
Hornady has Match ammo for the Garandicon in 30-06 check for 7.62.
Winchester makes 7.62 and probably Privi Partisan.

Bear1, to clarify my own confusion, Are you saying that your rifle is a .308 caliber or shoots the .308 winchester?

John, If I'm not mistaken it's a .308 Winchester. Also I need to order some En Blocs, can I use the same ones for the 30-06?

Bob Seijasicon, How can you tell if it was a conversion. I bought it from a local pawn shop and the owner, who is a good friend, didn't know a lot about it. The stock looks like new with no marks on it. It's a very clean in excellent condition rifle.

Yes, it's never been a problem.

There should be marking on it. The side under the op rod handle, or maybe up on the barrel ring. If an insert was used there may be no markings...just original.

A box of new manufacture enblocs can be purchased through the CMPicon for $18 for 25. Even ugly rusted clips are going for 2 bucks plus and you may get some from the Greek that don't always work when reloaded
