If you live in an area like Arizona, then yes you probably do. For the rest of the country where humidity levels are higher, you probably can get away without one.
Or in the winter time North of Virginia when the relative humidity is extremely low, either that or use your tub filled with hot water and hang the parts in the bathroom. No, not required from say, mid June to mid September.

I´d been trying to find the formula for the singular rust bluing on early DWM Lugers, when a customer told me that his father had been a Berlin master gunsmith who took on piece work for DWM. Parts were delivered in large wicker baskets to be rust blued. They were hung on hooks against the tarred brick wall used as the workers´ urinal. When they´d rusted a while, they were carded and the process was repeated several times over.
