    Problem with Internet Explorer

Well finally able to get into this site again after a few weeks of total frustration. This and one other site would not load properly no matter what I did or how many times I tried.

Countless other sites were no problem but this is a favourite so frustration beyond belief.

I finally sent a email to my computer guru, no reply (he is very busy) and last night my son said, install Google Chrome and try it. WOW instant relief as both sites now work perfectly so I sent my guru another email of what I did.

    Here is his reply.

Ah yes. I should have thought of that. IE changed recently. Their updates broke a lot of Web pages.
There is a compatibility mode you can set in IE if you need to use it. That typically fixes most issues.

Did anyone else on here have the same problem I was experiencing? I am done with IE, enough is enough.

There are days Microsoft drive people nuts with what they do, I just experienced one of those days.

Internet Explorer is a mess and the only way it operates at all on our site (and many others), is to be set for compatibility mode.

We recommend any other web browser, such as Safari, FireFox or Chrome, all of which are free....

Glad you have your problem sorted out...

    Regards,
    Doug

I remember reading vBulletin was going to drop support for IE with the release of 4.2, IIRC? Haven’t kept up with vB for a few years now.

I am using IE8 not in compatibility view and it seems to be fine.

I'm not sure if vBulletin eventually dropped support for IE or not, but I remember them talking about possibly doing that ...

I think you'll always be fine with IE8. I think the real issues started with IE9 and later....

    Thanks for the feedback ..

    Regards,
    Doug

I found the "comatability view" to make a mess of this site. But the computers here are updated using one of the no longer generally supported versions of IE. And Windows as well. Microsoft will do support for old software if you pays 'em enough, I reckon.

But I'm too busy to get online much lately! Wouldn't be surprised to find that nothing works one of these days. Wouldn't be the first time.

I like this site, but if I can't use IE, then I'll have to abandon visiting it.

"We recommend any other web browser, such as Safari, FireFox or Chrome, all of which are free...."
IE is still a big player & still has a high market share, first or second, depending on which set of stats are used.

Seems to me the standard response to any website issues these days is USE ANOTHER BROWSER rather than fixing the site.

And today the site format is not very user friendly. Should have refrained from commenting!

ETA: But commenting on the comment seems to have fixed it! ETA2: Somewhat. Weird computer nonsense.

I'm having trouble with this site myself today, all other forums viewed are ok, but this one seems to be in widescreen and with no lateral adjustment.
Tried dropping down to 75% but still makes no difference

Just tried chrome and firefox, still the same.........not happy.
