    AI scope reticle

Has anyone seen the AI Schmidt & Bender PM 6x42 on ebay, the reticle is different to the normal army issue, does anyone know why?

Nope, that ain't the correct grat pattern. I would suggest that it's gone back to S&B to be repaired and that glass etched reticle pattern is the only comparable thing that have in stock against the usual GSR specification of post and crosswire. Just my opinion

    Eire had the L96........?

Added a bit later...... Not really related to the question but historically I question this simply because the UKicon MoD always held the IPR to the design and manufacture of the L96 due to some financial and commercial 'dealings'early on, As such, it was always built for the UK MoD as a commercial (and some have said, a loss making) undertaking by AI. That is the reason why you never saw them operated by anyone else*. Even when other nations wanted them, AI were unable to sell, because of this. Take a Scandinavian Country that wanted a big batch....... Same again but this time a similar design that didn't affect the IPR rights and design was developed and sold..... The AW! So I ask, did they have AW's or L96's? My SASC friend Lt Col Mike xxx cannot recall another nation having the L96 beyond some small trials sample weapons

The single shot feed 'almost an L96' look-a-like was as close as it gets but even then, while it was close, it wasn't, simply because the chassis rail was a fundamental part of the IPR design!

*I don't know the exact figures as it was really nothing to do with us as users but a couple of Police Forces purchased genuine L96's due to a misunderstanding regarding them being 'the UK Government end user' in the contract (Police Forces are not the Government, they are Local Authority employers having authority under the Crown). But even these were given separate serial numbers.

To illustrate the point, if you have an L96, just try buying the special-to-L96 spare parts. I could be wrong on some of the trivia here but........

I Saw a black S&B scope at the Bisley Trafalgar with the same stunted post and fine crosshair grat, think it was 2.5-10 x 50 and I'm pretty sure that had an AI number on the occular end. It also had the L13 type bdc turrets.
seems to be a few variations of these scopes around linked to the Irish Republic and L96's. does seem odd though what with the IPR issue as Peter said, if the Canadians, Aussies and Kiwis couldn't have L96's why would the Irish Republic. Is it not more likely a Northern Ireland police connection, that might make sense if they've recently chopped some rifles.
Or is this just a confusion between an L96 and AW designation.

Could have been NI Plod could have been the AW, don't know for sure but I've been told that they have a connection to the Emerald Isle.

As a side note I thought the AW or Arctic Warfare was developed for a Swedishicon Army contract? Hence the anti icing cuts on bolt etc.

The dopey, narrow and ill thought out body sight rail was always a bit of an L96 type giveaway. But always worth reiterating that the L96 wasn't the most accurate rifle on the trial. That was the P-H. Mind you, that's all it really had going for it. The L96 was without doubt the overall best. Oooooops....., sorry Lt Col Mike - who preferred the lines and build of the PH.

The BDC turrets on the "Irish" scopes have different calibration on them, so I guess not Britishicon service ammo, maybe a heavy 7.62 like 168 or 173g bullets or a different calibre perhaps. Might be a glue to use/origin.
