    VZ-24 Sniper help

Guys, I hope you can point me in the right direction. I have a VZ-24 sniper with bases. It is SN# OR3564 made by zbrojovka brno, a.s. VZ-24. Understand now, both bases but no mount with rings and no scope. Does anybody know where I go find the mount? I think scope should be OK to hunt up. Thanks guys.

    VZ-24 Sniper

I thought perhaps someone in Europe knows of an Austrian shop making sniper mounts. Ring a bell?

I have always understood that Germanicon WWII sniper rifles were, in general, fitted with commercial scopes that were made for hunting rifles. There were several different manufacturer-specific mounts, for clamp/hook/twist fittings, and some scopes of the period had integral mounts. So do not leap in and buy some kind of scope and mounts without first knowing what is supposed to fit into the bases. Find yourself a gunsmith who specializes in German/Austrian hunting rifles. He may be able to identify the specific scope and mounts that went with the bases.

If you can post really GOOD, SHARP photos of the bases, I may be able to get a local gunsmith to identify them. DIMENSIONS of any slots or other fixings would also be helpful.

Do you have the VZ24 with the front base looking like 1/2 triangle?

    Attachment 58443

mine is a Czechicon contract dated 1936 IIRC.

    The original rings are 30mm.

I bought several sets of original rings when I stumbled into them a few years ago...last time I saw them listed they were somewhere over $700 for a set. I got them from someone who bought out Century's junk when they closed Canadianicon operations in the early 90s.

My understanding is that Century Arms imported several hundred into the US in the late 80s/early 90s, but only about 6 were complete with rings and scopes, and only 1 of those was matching.

Hey Steve .. what you have is a Romanian Vz.24 sniper rifle, they were originally issued with an IOR scope, looking similar to a PU scope. The mount was unique.

The person in Austriaicon who you're referring to indeed made reproduction mounts, but doesn't make them any more. Anyway, the scopes hardly come by. I have bought mine complete, with a scope can. Attached some pictures, they hopefully be of help with your search.

You can also try to contact Laurent Bernard, his user name is balbuz_be, both on ebay and on some forums. He has a scope with upper mount on his site and he usually sells his stuff, depending upon the price you're willing to give!
