    The part stylized R is a rust stamp. The number on the bayonet boss is from an earlier rifle. The number you showed on the bolt is the PA number which will also if it matches be on the action under neath the closed bolt handle. You don't show the rifle serial number on the rear of the bolt handle. The butt plate is not original and there may not be any stamps on the butt.

    I don't want to hijack this thread, but have to ask. Can someone fill us in on the butt plate? I have one like it on what must be the ugliest piece of butt wood I have ever seen, and have never seen a bp like it. I would sure like to know more about it.

    It is the butt and butt plate from an Indian 7.62mm variant of the rifle. It is a butt plate from a UKicon/Aust/Can L1A1 rifle. Used in India as a quick recognition feature between tyhe .303" and 7.62mm guns
