    Making Safe Edge Files

Do you often accidentally take metal off parts in areas that you never intended? In this lesson Ken Brooks shows you how to turn an ordinary file into a "safe edge" file.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Interesting in respect to wood patching. We converted files to a DOUBLE safe edge to file/clean out the upper band recess at the muzzle end of No8, L42 and L39 fore-ends after they'd been patched.

Speaking of files... does anyone know where I can find a good set of US made files? All can find are imports.. mostly from China.

Nicholson files are at nicholsontool.com. I got a couple from a friend who used to work for newspaper(printing dept.). Great files.

Thanks. I have some Nicholson's. They all say "MADE IN MEXICO".

On their website they say they are "American Pattern". I am looking for MADE IN USAicon.

    I found this:

Nicholson was part of Cooper Industries from 1972 to October 2012. Apex Tool Group was formed in 2010 as a joint venture of Danaher Tool Group and Cooper Hand Tools with over 30 brands including Nicholson. In October 2012, Danaher Corporation and Cooper Industries sold Apex Tool Group to Bain Capital.

In 2011 Apex Tool Group closed its Cullman, Alabama Nicholson file factory and other US plants in Monroe, North Carolina and Hicksville, Ohio. Cullman production was moved to Cali, Colombia, Tlalnepantla, Mexico, and Sorocaba, Brazilicon.
You are lucky. Your files were made pre-2011.

I will see if I can find some used files at the Mexican flea market. There are always lots of tools there. I found a nice thread file there for $5. It a bit ironic... having to go to little Mexico to find US made tools.
