    Question Good idea? bad idea?

Years ago a not so nice person sold me 400rds 30'06 in clips. It was Korean manufacture. I was younger and dumber and believed his add that it was non corrosive. Shot it in my shooter garand, original Springfield, costs me $300 back in the day. Discovered 2days after regular cleaning that the ammo was corrosive Now I had a barrel with some pitting. So, I have acquired a 1950's NOS GI Springfield barrel. My twisted plan is to shoot the remainder of that Korean ball through the pitted barrel in one glorious day of blasting, completely disassemble the rifle, clean it, take it to gunsmith and get new barrel installed. Deprime the brass, wash in boiling soapy water, and reload the brass. Good idea? bad idea? I want to get that corrosive stuff out of my ammo stores to avoid it getting into the wrong rifle. Could sell it, but hate to think of some unscrupulous rascal reselling to some innocent and wrecking another Garandicon.

When you shoot corrosive, it also drives the salts into the brass. This will take from the longevity of the brass also. I'd have pulled the ammo apart and re-primed with something else. I wouldn't use corrosive primers for anything. Never mind the soapy water, boiling water...windex...whatever. Too bad about your other barrel...

    Corrosive

GI's shot millions of rounds of corrosive in WWII without damaging the bores -- use GI bore cleaner or plain soap and water, don't write off the barrel.

The Chlorate salts in the brass should not present an issue and your washed brass should be fine other than its age (may need an anneal). Older Mecuric (fulminate of Mercury) primers would kill brass (and barrels too). Use GI (WW2 stuff) Bore Cleaner or Balistol and water to clean the barrel if you use the KA ammo. Shoot the barrel until the accuracy is gone. Just my two cents.

Pardon me gents, this is the stuff I speak of. I suppose the Korean ammo doesn't use the same recipe in their primers...? To me corrosive is corrosive...apparently there's two standards of corrosive.

So which is it? Bob says it won't hurt the brass and Wineman says it will? I found corrosive primed brass didn't last as long...I never shot it, I got it fired.
