    Winnie of the year!!!

To me. I'd like you opinions on it.

2 44 Winchester Garand pictures by BillHollinger - Photobucket

Not sure about the lower band (it's arched and rough but I can't tell what brand)

I guess my first look, without disassembly, was a little on the hopeful side. The finish looks really nice but the photos show to be more of a rust color. It's a nice green gray with a slight reddish tint.

Can anyone tell me what brand stock this may be?

Please forgive me I'm not a Winchester Garand guy. But please take a look and see what you think.

Enjoyed the pics...looks like a nice Winchester.
I don't know about the stock, but with a DAS I'd think it was post-war.

    Congrats!

Looks like a nice Winchester rebuild. I will try to answer some of your questions. Here is what I think and others can correct me if I am wrong. I am not sure what kind of stock. It has been heavily sanded with an orbital sander. The original cartouche was probably sanded off and the DOD stamp was probably done at the time of rebuild. It looks like it may have a large back porch so could possibly be a HRA with the original stamp, but the shape of the comb doesn't look right. The comb looks closer to a WRA stock and WRA's had a larger back porch than SA stocks, so maybe WRA. I can't tell by the pics whether or not it has the arched grip. A pic of the front of the barrel channel and the trigger guard cut out would help.. The lower band looks like a Winchester. It does not have much of an arch and no milling marks, but looks like it has the rounded corners at the point where it narrows down and wraps around the op rod. WRA bands were the only ones like this. The repairs on the rear handguard were pretty common on the Danishicon returns, but I don't know who made the repairs or when. The WRA trigger housing is the early small hole type and looks like it has the full, unmodified pad. A pic of the pad with the hammer uncocked would tell for sure. The trigger guard is SA. The rest of the parts are pretty common SA parts such as are found on most Garandicon rebuilds. The reddish or purple coloring you see is just the patina from age and exposure to the elements. It is more common on older blued rifles, but I have a couple of Garands with that exact color. It shows up more clearly in some light than others. That is a good indication that it has the original parkerized finish.

Thank you for the information. The stock does not have the "V" shaped cut to the rear of the trigger cut so I don't think it WRA.
