    Range Trip with 1941 SA

I made it out today to the indoor range with my new Garandicon and had absolutely no issues with operation at all. I started out with 10 up and 0 windage before settling on 11 up and 2 clicks left. Although I was using a rest, I was unable to sit (only one chair there and in use already) I had to stand and bend at an uncomfortable position and I think my sight picture and cheek weld were a bit off (maybe high) and not all that steady. I did manage to fire four clips with these results which all in all is not too bad but I think it could be better with a more solid sitting position so I'll try again later. For now though I'm satisfied since I only shoot just to plink and have some fun. These were all on a 8 inch shoot 'n see at 25 yds. using PPU 150 grain fmj.
One question...do folks recommend setting the elevation drum to 200 now to give me a rough battle zero, or do more folks just leave it alone and remember their starting zero?(I did write mine down)

Zero it for where you'll do most of your shooting. When did you figure to have to join Patton's army in the field? Zero for the range you shoot at.

    Zero

I agree with BAR, once you get the right windage setting FOR YOUR RIFLE, leave it there. If you ever shoot in a strong wind, adjust from there.

My CMPicon October '41 (358K) SA/FG needs only 3 clicks for 100 yards plus 2.5 clicks left windage. This was 12/21 at 100 yards, prone, hasty sling, 70's HXP. By some miracle, stock is the correct GHS/SA proof. All parts are SA 1941-1942 save three. Barrel is a 3+/4 SA 11/46. Handpicked from CMP South in June '14. I know I can bring the groups in a little more; I started high right and walked the shots back left.

Not bad for a field grade...from what I understand. Pretty lucky catch.
