Danish Krag Ready to Rock!

After a year and a half of searching, 60 rounds of 8x58R for my 1892 M1889 Danish Krag arrived today. I got the rifle to remind me of my grandfather, Otto Schoop (1909-1997), served in the 3rd Regiment of the Danish Army from 1929-1933.

The rifle is all matched, and a duffel cut bring back from WWII. I've repaired the stock myself. I've never shot a Krag before, and this is my only one. I'll get a US one at some point so I can get ammo easier and cheaper!

We'll be watching for the targets...you are reloading for this are you? I couldn't imagine shooting my 30-40 without reloading. Ammo for that's $34 or $36 a box here in Vic. They only have 4 boxes too...

No, I don't reload yet. These cost $3 each. I'm saving the cases for later; but I just wanted to try it a few times. Once my friend slips me his old primer tool, I'll reload BP for my 1880 I.G.71 Amberg.

The outlay is a bit but once you have it all you'll shoot that every time you go out. I do with my Krags...casting bullets saves too. Again, a bit of outlay. You can't really get in ankle deep. Has to be all the way or nothing.

Neat rifle, would love to see how it shoots. Personally I have only owned one Krag (Norwegian) and it didn't turn out so well for me (corroded chamber so the brass stuck to the inside, had to beat it out with a cleaning rod, promptly sold it as a parts gun). I can only feel a bit of pity for those poor Danes armed with these when WWII broke out, they were completely out classed by there opponents firearms.

real nice rifle an good job on stock. once you start to relaod your hooked for life. i have only bought factory shells a few times an those were just to get cases cheeper than buying them empty. plus once you get your set up an take care of it you will never be happier.

MajSpud is short for 'Major Spud'. I am a CW re-enactor and spent 5 of those years (20+) as Major of the 6th Regt. ANV. I had command of a small event in Maine about 10 years ago when I was beaned by a spud hurled from the heckling crowd of pro-Union sympathizers and knocked out cold. You can't avoid carrying something like this around for life.

The M89 Krag was the basis for the American Krag; one of a few changes was to modify the loading gate to hinge on the bottom.
