The acid test would be actual range work.

I think Peter Laidlericon would agree that even if the fore-stock had not been properly fitted by a military armourer when switched, that adjusting the pressure which the forearm puts on the barrel is far easier than collimating the scope and bracket to the rifle bore. I believe the instructions for this appear in the Canadianicon EME instructions.

Typo correction from above: For "(Sadly fold it later.) " read "(Sadly sold it later.) "

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. The forend poses an interesting dilemma. It is clearly a replacement, & has not been renumbered to this rifle. No doubt this mitigates against it having been done by whilst in UKicon (or presumably other Commonwealth government) service. However, the number is indicative of a 1944/45 BSA rifle (no prefix so can't be more specific), & has been neatly cancelled, but so as still to be legible, & was also marked along the length of the forend in the first place, suggestive of having been taken off another 4T.

I think it is a very nice rifle, & I would gladly give it house room; but I am ignorant of Canadianicon prices, which I suspect are probably somewhat lower than the prices one sees here in the UK. So only the OP can say if it is really worth it to him. Is it really priced over the top by Canadian standards??

All you REALLY need to know Bros is that this rifle and mis-matched CES that you've been offered ain't like being offered a Golf GTi that WILL depreciate tomorrow. This rifle WILL cost you more tomorrow - just as sure as eggs is eggs!. Get it and match it up just as we would do in an Armourers shop over a period of years while it's at a unit.

Reminds me of a pure clown I met several years ago.......... Had a No4T and the matching bracket but was looking for THE telescope. Someone on this forum, feeling a tad sorry for his plight, offered him a perfect Mk2 (actually it was an even BETTER converted 2/1) that was 13 or so numbers ahead of what he needed for a completely knocked down price that was fantastic value for money. He declined, stating that he'd look for the ACTUAL telescope. I did mention, diplomatically of course....... or maybe not diplomatically enough....., that he was in the land of the fairies.

The upshot was (........go on........, you've guessed it already) that two years later the donkey STILL hadn't found the actual scope, the very close one had gone to some not-so-worthy made up No4T owner. While the now true donkey had to purchase a totally clapped out Mk1 telescope off that auction site, missing some parts for 80% MORE than the price of the Mk2/1 he was originally offered. AND have it rebuilt and even then it's still not as good as the 2/1 or even a close number.

Words rarely fail me but they did then, believe me..........!

Regarding price, I do not think you are risking much. CAD 6000 = £3,200. A similar set up in the UKicon would now fetch around £5,000. And so you could export this to the UK at any time (for about CAD 600) and make money.

Peter, one of the things I like about you is......you don't beat around the bush!!!!! You call it like it is!!!!!! You see guys I'm fairly new at this game of purchasing No4MK1 T series rifles as well as being able to identify all those little things that are important when potentially spending $6000.... I'm not a tire kicker, I just want to be sure I'm not buying someone else's problem. We've have had some great dialogue about this rifle and as a result of that I feel comfortable about scrapping some of that mold off my wallet...thanks Peter, Seaforth, Roger and to all others that participated and helped me out

The final arbiter of price is the market, regardless of what it might sell for somewhere else.

If the rifle has been on the market for some time and not sold, there is likely some issue with it or the price is too high for the market it is offered in.
