Hi all andf ? from new member

Hi all, I am a new member to this group and a Vietnam vet. I have a Japanese Arisakaicon rilfe that is a style 99 and it looks like it was made in the Nagoya Arsenal. It also has a Mum that was not defaced so it must have been a war trophy bring back. The serial number on the rifle is 96041 but the bolt has 188 on it. It has one vent hole, aircraft sights. Cleaning rod is attached.

I thought about having it refinished but everyone says no. Will try to get some pics posted this weekend.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Welcome to milsurps.com Kevin. You will find we have a huge and very knowledgeable membership here and all are more than willing and eager to help with whatever issue may arise. Enjoy and again, welcome aboard.

My advise and this may not fit with everyone here but I would leave it as is. Although Japanese Arisakaicon rifles may not be the most prized collectors, they are collectors nonetheless. Even though the bolt isn't a match, very few are. This can be explained with a number of different stories; some eyewitness stories, some not so much. One is that at certain ports bring back rifles were required to have the bolts removed before shipping home. IDK These babies will be worth a great deal one day and left in their original state will only add to the value. JMHO

Kevin, Welcome! Lots of Arisakaicon fans here. I would completely concur with Bill's comments. Salt Flat

I have 4 t-99 bring backs and fortunately they are all matching but do have the defaced mum. Don't do anything to the stock that you may latter regret. Enjoy your t-99...they are fun to shoot.

I too have a very nice type 99, all matching, Mum intact, was a "basement find" that I acquired last year. Have been wanting to try it out at the range, however, at a local gun show this past weekend, only 7.7 Jap ammo that I could find was $39.95 a box.... I refuse to pay $2 a round for this ammo! Does anyone know a more reasonable source for this ammo, aside from reloading?

Grafs usually has it for about half that price. You may have to keep checking back if they are out of stock.

    Graf Sons - 7.7x58 Japanese

Not quite half but close. They are out of stock however.

Perhaps you should've bought it anyway. Seems there's no 7.7 available at any price right now.
