    Newly bought 1943 T sniper.

As the title says I finally got my hands on an enfield T sniper. It's a gun I've wanted for sometime now. It's a scoop less gun and the stock has been sanded and laqured. Up pretty good but I'm going to strip the stock and refinish it back to as close to original as I can get. Had the gun on another forum so now that I actually won the gun in the auction i figured I'd get some more opinions on it. I know the gun isn't museum quality but I feel it's in great shape for a shooter/personal treasure. I have not had the gun shipped yet so more pics to come but here are a few pics from the auction. Also looking for pics to what the stock should look like when I'm done and I've also been told that i should be looking for a first gen scope, but I have seen mk2 scopes stamped 1943. So guys please school me. I know about some of the marking as I've done a weeks worth of reaserch. I know about the TR, the T on the receiver by the screw , the S stamped in the receiver and H&H marks on the butt stock. The pictures don't show the D6E mark but some say bc it's an early gun it may not have it or it may be stamped somewhere else. Also the front mount pad they say may have been replaced later in the guns life after it left H&H due to its not perfectly level to the receiver. The stock on the other hand has slight appearance of scope serial number on wrist and the 5 in the s51 stamp is slightly visible in person I guess when I called on the gun. When I asked if it had it the guy could see it slightly now that he new too look for it.

How do I upload pictures on this forum?

There is an instruction in the stickies on how to upload. Most normally use photo bucket or similar, you can upload photos to your own page also.

The best way is to use a photo hosting site like Photobucket to host the pics. Then you link them to your post.

Read these stickies. This should explain everything.

How do I show pics from Photobucket, Flickr, ImageShack etc. on milsurps.com?

How do I upload pictures to my posts for storage on milsurps.com?

Thx I think it's a bit high being it has stock issues but I like how it was an early 43 and that it was in fact T marked.

Z28addiction: It's also super-easy to upload directly from your harddrive if you check out the instructions and make sure you size the individual images to under a meg.

Yes, an interesting rifle. The body side wall T is smaller than the norm, but is of the same style. I have seen several of these rifles over the years (& own one), all of them being 43 BSA's.

Incidentally, what are the letters marked onto the inside of the body side-wall by the front pad screws?

You may also find it has the BSA examiner's stamp on it but not the D6E - but this is common on earlier rifles.

    Nice find.

I'm not sure exactly I noticed that. Almost looks electro penciled but won't know till next week when it comes in.

Also on the left side of the receiver by the T is it normal for the NO4 M1icon to be electro penciled rather than stamped? It doesn't looked stamped in the pictures? Had me worried a bit.

This rifle, AQ6542, is interesting. Made by BSA (M47 code) in 1943 it does not have the later standardized M47C code indicating BSA Shirley factory.

Scope would indeed have been a Britishicon No. 32 Mk. I or No. 32 Mk. II. Although there are replicas sold of both of these models, I do suggest that if you can, buy an original scope and bracket. It would be a mismatch, but at least it would be real. Original scopes and brackets will become more expensive and scarce as time goes by. If you get one, in fairness to other No. 4 T owners, check the ~Angel's~ Matching Service on Milsurps.com where people try to match up rifles with the numbered scopes and brackets. Sadly most of these sniper rifles appear to have been sold with mismatched scopes by most surplus dealers.

By the way, the absence of the special sling swivel in front of the magazine is not a problem as these came later and although many rifles appear to have been retrofitted with this swivel, not all were. If you do add one it would be the short stem version that will NOT pass the loop just in front of the magazine.

I wouldn't worry about that - BSA didn't stamp the No 4 MK1 on the reciever - often it's not very visible on the rifle due to paint etc. I've got a '43 with the smaller t too.
