    Snipers

Far be it to normally post in the Ross forum except I found a pic I hadn't seen before. It shows a sniper group with their Ross rifles and W&S optics. Also details that most sniper rifles for WW1 were cut back at the forestock...

Photo: 1914-18. Canadianicon snipers equipped with their Ross MkIII c/w Warner & Swasey telescopic sights. It should be noted that few, if any, operational Ross MKIII snipers were not cut back.

Wonder if they cut them back for some reason other than accuracy? Couple of thoughts sprang to mind.

You'll find this pic (and others) in the MKLicon article for an authentic example of a 1915 M10 Ross MkIII* Sniper Rifle (click here).

I just hadn't seen that shot before, figure you'd have seen it...at least... I find it fascinating they cut back the much worshiped Ross to obtain better results, even in the field.

By the way Ray, I still don't smile for the camera. I don't think it's becoming for soldiers. Ours wasn't a happy-go-lucky business.

Well at least the guy top roll, far right facing the camera seems to be smiling. Some people like war. What date is that photo and were was it taken, over seas or in Canadaicon, just curious? Ray

    He's probably a new guy. I haven't been overseas since I was 22 and I still don't smile...just a fact.

You'd have to refer to Badger's info to see if it says where the pics were taken. No other info included with the pic.

just think to have a complete set up handed to you as in that picture. A FULL UNIFORM FULL RIFLE AN FULL GEAR SET. What would you do. would you sit an wonder? Would you listen to it? How would you treat it? Just a question to roll around in yourmind on a cold dark night.
