An original April 1944 Springfield M1 Rifle

Hey Chris, That's the strangest looking carbine I have ever seen. But she is pretty.

I really like the Garand, but this my only WW2 original.

Newscotlander< nice photos of your rifle. A few comments: Your lock bar on the rear sight is the third type not the second type (look at my photo and you will see the round bevel at each end on the type 2). This serial number range could use either type 2 or type 3 lock bar. Also the gas cylinder lock screw could be either the single slot or the poppet valve in this serial range too.

I'm not sure whether Scott Duff actually saw this rifle and filled out the data sheet, or someone else sent the information to him. The rear sight type and gas cylinder lock screw are incorrect in his books.

I saw it in Duff's WW2 book on page 232. You know there was an overlap on a lot of parts during the war and either lock screw could be correct as well as the type of lock bar (Type 2 or Type 3) and some collectors will tell you the square front on the clip latch is post WW2 too.

Duff,s book has become dated in some information on parts but you have to realize the book was published in 1993. The book was in error on the follower arm used from mid 1940 into mid 1941and on the follower assembly from May 1940 to March 1941, as a number of original rifles with their data sheets have since surfaced

Looks to have a round front clip latch as well. beautiful rifle.
