Crazy find at estate sale

Hi guys i found this crazy bayonet at an estate sale mixed in trunk i bought. Bayonet has no name or malleings execpt for a set of numbers on left grip pannel. 76585. blade is 9 1/2 inches long. handel is 5 1/2 inches long.metal slab sides formed an seamed on top. metal scabard woth ball tip. od green paint on scabard. fits scabead very well. was found with a mountain sleeping bag dated 1944, an full box of WAF chevorns un issused set of 100 pairs. not sure if that would help. i looked at every book i own an not any luck for a bayonet with 2 barrel bands

That is a Turkish (Ersatz) bayonet for the FN FAL rifle. Turkey - G1 (FAL) Bayonet

Considering time and space, such a crude bayonet for such an advanced weapon. I never did see any of them carrying one of these blades though. It's something I'd have noticed, stood out.

well for what i have invested i think i get a deal only piad 30.00 for the whole lot. thank you for that infomation. I only have a few bayonet books main one being britsh an commonwealth by Skennerton.

I had one of those in a tub of assorted bayonets at work and never really got a handle on what it was. I was confused as it was labelled as 'came from RMP* Cyprus' (* Royal Military Police) but no other paperwork.

In the early 1960s, Turkey received Belgian-made FN FAL (G1) rifles from Germany, who had procured 100,000 from FN, but then changed to the G3 rifle after FN refused to allow Germany to produce the Belgian-made FN FAL (G1) under license.

The Germans did not issue a bayonet with the Belgian-made FN FAL (G1) , so Turkey decided to add a bayonet lug to the G1 barrel and produced this makeshift knife bayonet.

Crudely constructed of a new made pressed steel hilt mated with a recycled blade from an earlier Mauser bayonet. Several variations in blade, crosspiece, and muzzle ring have been observed. The scabbard is recycled from an earlier Mauser bayonet.

Maybe it was captured from the Turks during the invasion of Cyprus.

It just looked so crude! But I have to admit that I never even dreamed of trying it against anything relatively modern! But it does well illustrate the point that whatever you use, you can only kill a man so dead! Thanks for that Unprofor and Bar, you've answered my long unanswered querie too!

Most people don't and that's why they are often sold as German WW1 ersatz bayonets. Some unscrupulous sellers even remove the back ring on the grip so it will look like a WW1 bayonet even more.

I believe I have run across some of them being sold on ebay as WWI ersatz bayonets. Never made sense to me as to what it would fit on. Good to know.

That's what fooled me Aragorn. Not that I paid too much attention to it but couldn't think of anything old that it might fit! I did try a few things as the mood took me. Ain't it amazing the pool of info on this site?

Can I assume that they're quite common?
