    .308 Garand Barrel Question

I received a call from my local GS about a Garandicon he took in on a trade, he wanted to know if I was interested. Stopped in yesterday and it's a 2.8 mil Springfield mixmaster in very nice condition with a Boyds stock, BMB trigger housing, NM op rod that mic'd right at. 525, and is chambered in. 308. There are absolutley no markings on the barrel that I can find. The barrel looks new and has a MW of 1, and the receiver is clearly reparked. Could this have been a CMPicon barreled receiver, or possibly a CMP. 308 garand? I only guessed barreled receiver due to the Boyds stock, with no CMP markings, only the Boyds stamp inside the channel. Any ideas?

I can't say for sure it's not a CMPicon because I've never ordered from them, but I'm thinking they'd mark a barrel before sending it out. I should think this is one done up by an individual. They CAN be done up in your own facility without any real problems.

I was at the CMPicon north store a while back and checked out some of the barreled receivers, but I cannot remember if the. 308 barreled receivers had any markings on the barrel or not, I would bet they probably are stamped with something though. I did check the chamber with go and no go gauges and it's good to go, and the rifle has clearly been fired, so I bought it anyway. I have lots of. 308 ammo, so I figured why not. And the cost was just too good to pass up. :-)

I have one I did myself and it doesn't miss a beat. It gives me no issues. I installed a variable gas cylinder lock screw relief valve...so I can shoot whatever comes to hand without battering things to bits. Load whatever bullets I wish...and my barrel is a Kreiger Criterion. It IS marked. Strange yours wouldn't be.

Most barrels had 7 62 MM or 7.62 NATO stamped on the side of the barrel.
