    Paint finish info wanted

Regarding the No32 scope can finish and based on a few I,ve seen, I,ve noticed some cans have a matt finish inside and the outside is gloss, also the colour is different (on some) I guess the inside was the base coat which looks like khaki then the outside was finished with the Land Rover bronze green ??

Also regarding the outside finish was this Gloss or a semi gloss / satin ?? only ask as I,ve got a can that needs some tlc, its at a point were I need to remove the original finish to save it and will receive the same as one that went through the repair process when in service.

I,m lucky that the rifle and telescope Number are present so will re apply them when finished also have a number of the reproduction tins on the way, which I intend to paint the outside bronze green also.

We did many hundreds during the conversion to L1A1 telescope spec including fitting the two extra little clip thinggies and replacing unserviceable catches. Finish according to the I&S EMER following modification was simple. bead blast, phosphate and paint completely in standard (for the time) Landrover/Bedford depp bronze green paint andf through the oven. The oven was at quite a low temp as I recall which made it pretty academic really. You can always tell the refurbished ones because there was always a small pool of hard dried paint in one internal corner where they'd hung drying in the oven! The grit played havoc with the hinge!

Ah, yes....... That wasn't a stencil but a set of rubber faced numbers and letters used for marking webbing, fabric and cloth type material. They were put into a large clip type of thing where one of the clips slipped into a slot and kept the numbers/letters aligned. Totally misused in that application of course.

I forgot to say but when the cases went through the workshops they were usually stencilled with a simple stick-on/peel-off one way trip stencil that was marked TEL STRT STG L1AX: or TEL No32 MkX : followed by RIFLE: The X indicates a blank space and the rifle or tele number would follow the marking.

I had some in my office drawer when I left. If I have one I'll send it.
