L42A1 Sniper Rifle Sling L8A2 - on that site - Mad price or what?

    Just sold for GBP256

Nearly as mad as the GBP410 that the plastic bottle to house the lens cleaning brush sold for recently on that site.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. The real irony was that if the truth be told, these slings weren't either good or popular. No doubt the best was the next version.

The question of what a particular item is worth is often asked and the stock answer is to put it up for auction. Items sell for what an indivdual wants to pay no more and no less. Next week a similar item might only sell for half of what was previously paid like they say you pay your money and take a chance....

You're dead right of course. I was forgetting that the collectors value ain't quite what the users value was. As a matter of interest, these slings were made by Irvine and just the parts alone, from aerolex in Devizes (? correct me if I'm wrong) cost about £120 or so. If the storeman ordered 10 to keep his stocks up, he'd get a shirty reply from the production control office at DSSD at Bicester!
