    I'll look into that, thanks.

The marking I'm asking about was the two arrows with the circle stamped above the "F53" on the barrel, and was in the original post.

I think part of the confusion earlier in this thread comes down to my old chestnut of correct use of terminology and nomenclature. A "Proof mark" has a specific meaning as opposed to, for example, an "inspectors mark" or indeed any/all of the other marks that one finds on military firearms.

I suggest if one doesn't actually know what a mark is one just uses the term "mark". No one is going to look down an anyone doing so - several of us here have been looking at this stuff for years and still make errors.

BTW in the first post the word: "this" is followed by a blank space and I still haven't seen a picture of the mark referred to in the first post.

Might I humbly and respectfully suggest that you use a camera and not a mobile phone to take the important photos you want us to elaborate on.

It's hard to get a good picture of it, since neither my real camera or my phone refuse to focus on it properly. It was much clearer in the original picture I posted, but here's another one:

Is it me........? The 'first' picture you put up comes out as a box with a red cross in it - so not a lot of use there then. You'd get a better picture if you just wiped the bloody grease off the marks that you want identified! I can just see a load of grease splodged on the barrel

I don't even get the red crosses just, as I said earlier, a blank space.

And I second that comment on the grease.

Are you guys not able to see the pictures in the OP? That's odd...

I'll clean the grease off when I have time later today.

As someone pointed out in post #2 and others did subsequently, not from day one.
