Question about the French MAS Mle 1936

Hello All
New to this forum.
Seeking information about the MAS Mle 1936 that I purchased yesterday.
Have found dies and brass so will start loading by the end of the week, hopefully.
The bore appears to be perfect.
Anyone out there have any experience with this rifle?
Can a scope be mounted?
What kind of accuracy can one expect from the 1936?
Is the rear sight adjustable for windage?

Not so much windage adjustment here. Generally you drift the front.


Have never seen a scope mounted on a '36, but I reckon it's possible. The FRF-1 has a scope on top, so...

If it's a BSquare thing, then you're probably better off using the iron sights.

I had exactly the same question some years ago, when trying out a MAS36 that shot quite acceptable groups at 100 meters: 1MOA wide, 3MOA tall, but about 5 MOA to the right (outside the 8" black).


An expert friend in France told me that the backsight leaves were originally available with varying offset positions, left and right, and if the POI with centered foresight blade was badly off centre horizontally, the armorer would select a replacement that gave the best-centered POI. These replacement elements were, even in France 10 years ago, strictly in the realm of "unobtanium" and so one trick was to open out the backsight aperture to seriously oversize, and then glue or solder in a washer over the hole to achieve a fine-tuning of vertical and horizontal position and aperture size. Sounds fiddly, and something to try only if your POI is wildly off.
