M1 Garand Gas Trap (Updated with photos)

I think I have an original gas trap rifle. Spring and front sight appear to have been replaced but everything else looks original. Rifle was my grandfathers and would never sell it but I am curious as to its authenticity. Any good information out there that I can use to verify it is indeed a gas trap? Thanks.

Besides the early model shop single blade front sight, the gas trap front sights had either straight sides or curved sides or ears and were attached to the gas trap cylinder by a side mounted screw. The gas port front sight was mounted from the side on a dovetail with a allen screw in the back. The front sights are not interchangeableAttachment 61841Attachment 61842

Well, well...finally one comes out of the closet.

There are a few things wrong and leading me to think it was a put together. I think both hand guards are later as is the metal on them. The op rod is later [ possible later Gas Trap]. The barrel has many many scuffs as if the guard was put on and taken off allot. The front of the barrel seems to have less wear than the receiver. Numbers off parts are needed as many are later parts and can fall into the later Gas Trap era but may very well be very later gas Port parts. Neat find either way What serial range is the receiver??? No doubt that is a gas trap type gas cylinder.
I'm sure we would all like to see pictures of part markings starting with barrel and receiver.
The list of known gas traps is fairly short so please excuse us if we appear skeptical.
We want to believe another gas trap has "appeared", it gives us all hope of finding one!
What's going on at the front end of that op-rod spring? Something stuck inside the coils?
