    Jack,
I am not offended, and I did not mean to question your integrity.
When I re-read my comments I agree I could have used a little more tact.
Mincing words is not my strong suite, in fact, I am known for being a little blunt.
It is both my blessing and my curse.

That said, I am actually astounded that another gas trap has surfaced, at least most of one.
Are you familiar with the Garandicon Collectors Association?
If you were to write down all you know about the history of your rifle and anything as to how your grandfather acquired it, that and the excellent pictures you have taken would make an excellent article in the quarterly journal.

It might also lead you to sources for some of the missing parts.

In any case, I do not think I would take that particular rifle hunting any more.
It is an historical artifact that should be preserved.
We can help you find a reasonably priced Garand for hunting if that's your goal.
    Chris.

Amen to that, Crispy, it would make a great article in the GCAicon Journal and inspire others to keep looking. I love articles on rifles with original key components and changed small parts -- pointing out what is right and what is not, plus what the right parts look like, is instructive to newer collectors. I'll bet he would get some big bids, too

Yeah, no more hunting with this one for sure. Once I figured out what I had I made the decision to never put another round through it. Maybe a blank now and then but even then probably not. I am very much interested in looking for the parts but probably will not be in any position financially to purchase the SA/SPG stock for it. I did find the proper trigger housing for a decent price though.
I will look into the above mentioned resources as well. Thanks again, jack

I am planning to sell off the gas trap era parts and get some shootable parts. I have no idea what they are worth and have not been able to locate any for sale to compare pricing. Are there any good resources out there for appraisal? Thanks, jack

NM, just found the appraisal forum. thanks.

    Parting Out

Before you do that you should fill out a GCAicon data sheet listing exactly how you found it for the record... it would be important data and a real service to collectors and students. The GCA Journal now being mailed out will have a blank one with instructons on how to fill it out, or go to The Garand Collectors Association , click on Supply Shack and scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Please do not part it out. It is an historical artifact. Perhaps you could offer it for sale with a part of the price a shootable/hunting garand? Just a thought.
