    I have a Lithgowicon Mk III action body in my collection which was found during the demolition of the old Electrolux factory in Melbourne several years ago. It has had the basic machining done for the Aussie version of the Charlton conversion (that never achieved full production) which consisted of removal of the charger guide, milling a step at the safety catch hole (to support the sideplate) and milling clearance cuts in the magazine well for the 30 round magazine. The rifle must have been impressed into service at the beginning of WW2 as it has 'Sold out of Service' stamps. Marks are as follows;

    Butt socket; Lithgow shield, 1917
    Reciever ring; serial number 84810, a second number above it 16549 (hand stamped), 4MD (on top), ^S^ (on left side), plus all the usual inspection marks.
