    The Hakim????

I have inherited what I feel surely is a Hakim. Although, on the right side of the receiver, where usually is written "HAKIM 7.9mm MADE IN EGYPT", mine has nothing. It does have a muzzle brake on it. From the barrel stamp and the number hand inscribed on the left of the receiver, it looks like it was imported by Century.

A few questions for those who know of these guns:
Was it scrubbed for some reason?
Did some Hakims just come unmarked?
Could it be chambered in something other than 8mm?
Heard of some serious ammo issues with these guns, could anyone steer me in the right direction on this?

I've included a few pictures also. As always thanks in advance for any knowledge or suggestion you can give me.

I'm pretty sure that's going to be chambered for 8mm...looks like the Egyptian markings again so it'll be a Hakim. Yes, they made the AG42b in 6.5x55 as well, and I think these were also made in 7.62X39 as a later project...a conversion...by Egypt. The Rashid, but they're different. Apparently they also made a few in 7.62 x 51 but only a dozen or so.
    Regards, Jim

If your going to shoot it, it is recommended to wrap some tape or something like that around the metal case deflector on there. That things beats the hell out of the brass and unless you put something on it to soften it, it will cause massive dents in the brass. The Swedes when they upgraded there's to the AG-42 B standard put a rubber stopper over there's (but by this point in time the rifle had already been sold to Egypt so they never received the upgrades)

I have read that the Turkishicon 8mm ammo is dangerous in it. Does anyone have suggestions or experience with these rifles and what works the best in them?

They have an adjustable gas tube so they can use just about anything although the Turk stuff may be too hot. The casings should eject about 8-10 ft from the rifle, adjust till they land about that far.

The writing you describe sounds a lot like the import marking. Looks like yours is on the barrel.

A very well made gas adjustment tool is avaliable from a poster on gunbroker. It is a good idea to clean and adjust the gas valve per the instructions before trying diffrent ammo types..

Yes, you are correct. The third photo down is an import stamp on the barrel.
